Carbohydrate Tid Bit

We need carbohydrates for energy.  The brain uses glucose energy (from carbs) exclusively!!! Therefore, you should not forego your carbs. Note: 1 (one) serving of carbs = 15 grams. Keep in mind that women ONLY need 3-4 servings per meal (it's not as much as you might think) and 1-2 servings for snacks. Men, because they generally have more muscle than women, need 4-5 servings of carbs per meal and 1-2 servings for snack. However, it also depends on your body composition and level of activity. Nutrition is very specific to the individual. Remember, carbohydrates provide energy to the body in the form of glucose and whatever you don't use the body stores as glycogen in the muscles with the help of  insulin. Exercise helps us to release this stored energy making us less fat and also helps increase insulin sensitivity which potentially helps us ward off diabetes. Stay tuned for more carbohydrate tid bits.
