The Logical Approach

When it comes to diet, One Size Does NOT Fit All.

For example, sodium does not increase blood pressure in all individuals. The ability of fiber to reduce cholesterol is also determined by individual genetics. So health wise, what works for one person may not work for another.

It is now possible to tell the difference between spontaneous and inherited breast cancers so there is plenty of hope in this area. Soon we will be able to determine an individuals ideal  health-promoting diet at an affordable price with genetic testing, key word, individual. At the forefront of all this is DNA microarray technology. With this technology, it will be possible to inexpensively predict an individuals risk of any disease that is linked to a defective or mutated gene and hence determine the appropriate diet for that individual. Excitingly, this technology  is making it potentially possible to develop new drugs that work better.

Bottom line: Many genes take on different forms in different individuals including, but not  limited to, metabolism. Therefore diets cannot work the same for everyone. There is such a thing as the placebo affect where individuals think a diet is working and therefore it does but usually this is due to other factors thst may be playing a role in that success such as exercise, nutrient adjustments, or calorie restriction.

The point: Don't  believe the hype! As there is plenty of reasearch to prove that not one single diet works the same in every individual. Fad diets including weight loss supplements promise quick weight loss; and although people lose weight initially,  not to mention that diet pills are not without their dangers,  usually individuals easily regain the weight plus more once they come off of the diet. So when your friend tells you "hey you gotta try this, I did and lost all this  weight!" Your first question should be what else did you do to try and lose the weight, and how safe is it? Bottom line, proceed with caution. Remember, there are no quick fixes. Sure there are things you can do to expedite your weight loss efforts but it is different for everybody. --Eat Well, Be Fit~1FITrd
